University Avenue Bridge Flooding
The creek flooded upstream of University Avenue last on December 23, 2012. The December 23rd flood is now rated as 5,400 cfs, but the bridge is estimated to have a capacity of 6,800 cfs. The JPA is planning to build a "small" floodwall here as part of their proposed current project. Below, you can see that debris were stuck to the bottom of the University Avenue Bridge, so the bridge capacity may not really be 6,800 cfs. There are no plans and no funds to replace the bridge.

If you look carefully, you can see debris floating down the creek in the background.
There is still debris stuck on the bottom of the bridge from the December 23, 2012 flooding.
The December 23, 2012 flood water crest at Pope/Chaucer was slightly more than two feet below the headwall.
