Flood Wall Option Vote

The option to include floodwalls in the prefered 100-year flood project will be voted on by the the SCVWD (Santa Clara Valley Water District) board of directors after a public hearing Tuesday, June 10 at 6:00 PM at their headquarters in San Jose. This may be the only time the board will need to hold a public hearing on San Francisquito Creek flood protection. This is an excellent opportunity to let the SCVWD board know how you feel about floodwalls upstream (west) of 101.

The Board is part-time, which means they do not have physical offices or voicemail here at the District. However, you may contact the Clerk’s Office at 408-630-2277, and your message will be relayed to the Board or appropriate Director.
When you send an email, letter, or fax to the Board of Directors, your correspondence becomes a public record. Please do not include any private information in your correspondence that you do not want made available to the public.
If you would like to comment on a Board Agenda item, please note the following additional information and deadlines:
  • Agenda item comments received by 8 a.m., on the Thursday prior to a Regular Board Meeting, will be distributed to the Board and made public via our website on Friday afternoon
  • Agenda item comments received after 8 a.m., on Thursday but before 3 p.m., on the day of a Regular Board Meeting, will be distributed to the Board at the meeting and made available to the public

Board Meetings, Agendas & Minutes


The Board of Directors holds regular meetings twice monthly - every second and fourth
Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.  When necessary, the Board will meet in Closed Sesion prior to a
6:00 p.m. Board Meeting.  All meetings are held in the District Headquarters - Board
Room, at 5700 Almaden Expressway, San Jose, unless otherwise noted on the meeting
agenda.
Persons wishing to address the Board during a meeting on an item not listed on the
agenda, or any item listed on the agenda, will need to submit a Request to Speak
Form to the Clerk of the Board at the meeting.  Speakers are called in the order
requests are received.

Stanford Favors a Flood-Control Fish-Passage for Searsville Dam

Stanford announced that it has preliminarily chosen to cut a culvert at the bottom of Searsville dam as its preferred option for allowing steelhead to travel past the dam.  If the flows exceed the capacity of the culvert, the dam will begin to back up water and reduce flood levels downstream. Searsville water contributes almost half of San Francisquito Creek's flow. "The key question is whether – and how – the sediment can be moved downstream," McCown said. A Beautiful Concrete Arch Bridge

Elliptical  arch concrete bridge with stone veneer Assuming that the Pope/Chaucer Bridge must be replaced, what kind of bridge would both function good and look good? One alternative to be considered is an elipitical arch bridge. The SCVWD's initially proposed design is functional for moving cars, but concerns have been raised about trees catching on the supports in the creek bed.
